Pioneer UHD BDR-S11JX from China

Hello, I'm trying to buy a few Pioneer UHD drives that will work with MakeMKV. I see some Pioneer UHD BDR-S11JX available from China on eBay. Mike's announcement says that most Pioneer UHD drives should work now. Does anyone know if this is true for all firmware versions of this drive? I'm asking because the seller doesn't specify which firmware the drives have. Cheers

Without a look to the MakeMKV drive informationit it's a glass ball prediction.
You can risk it or perhaps the seller is answering the question about the installed firmware.

If you’re in the UK try eBay for used examples, much more trustworthy

There is a high chance to get scammed. Better wait for Asmcom to reopen his site and buy from him.

Hi, I took the risk and purchased one.
It does read 4K.
Firmware is dated 2020.
It seems to be legitimate as far as I can tell.
It also burns 100GB BDXLs.
Libredrive looks to function as well.

Thank you Voxelium for the heads up on this! I've gone ahead and done the same. As it's getting pretty hard to find a decently priced UHD bluray drive for PC, and I definitely want to be prepared in case mine fails in the future.
I appreciate you!

I live in China. To be honest, this looks like something made by those renovators in Foshan/Guangzhou. These optical drives might only cost 450 RMB in China. Also, the special back sticker that is unique to the Pioneer model was not found...
My friend has bought one. It works fine for reading UHD files, but its reliability needs further observation.

Thanks Phantom for the heads up. By comparison, this Pioneer drive reads faster than my LG WH16NS40. So, perhaps, that's a good sign.

I ended buying what was advertised as a BDR-S11X from a U.S. eBay seller- and it's even labeled as such on the exterior of the drive. After removing the eight-year-old LG drive from the external Vantec USB-3.0 enclosure and replacing it with the Pioneer, MakeMKV recognized the drive and reported it to be a BDR-211. It worked right after installation, not requiring a flash or downgrade. I tested it by backing up the most troublesome of discs that I have - TRUE LIES. It was successful and completed the process in about 90 minutes. This is a disc that the LG could not read properly and failed. Also, the replacement Pioneer is much quieter and, so far, speedier. Was this Pioneer a new drive? Who knows. It was obviously an OEM unit in the original sealed plastic wrap. No exterior wear or scratches. So, I guess there is new inventory of some sort out there in the wild. Here is what MakeMKV reports. I am very pleased with the drive so far.

Figuratively speaking, that didn't take long for them to do, no? I guess the Japan demand must be working out for them.

Those drives are years old they stopped making 211 back in like 2019 they have had years to do this but they probably started back in 2023 when someone leaked the pioneer crossflasher to them
