Hi all and thanks for having me. I'm not sure if I'm in the right place but I'm trying to make my disc drive multi region (i already own some foreign dvds id like to watch again and am interested in importing blu rays / uhd from other countries like Japan).
I've read the firmware flashing guide but am confused which firmware to use, MK or the one from 'the all you need' pack. And I guess so long as i dump my original firmware im protected against bricking?
I understand i'll need the gui software tool, makemkv and the required .net framework installed (I'm on windows 11 64bit)
If someone could point me in the right direction id greatly appreciate it. Sorry for long post!
Cheers

Re: BU40N Multi region firmware?
The firmware has nothing to do with region coding. All good ripping software should ignore/remove any region coding when ripping. I have many discs from USA, UK, Germany and have had no issues ripping them with MakeMKV and streaming the MKV file on my NAS.Tetsuo1981! wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 8:52 amHi all and thanks for having me. MK firmware is the firmware from the all you need pack, it's just easier to say MK than NM0131124 blah blah. Use BU40N 1.03-MK if you only use MakeMKV or BU40N 1.00 if you also use other ripping software.
Cheers

My firmware pack in the SDFtool Flasher thread (first post) has it and I'm sure Billy's all you need firmware pack in the Ultimate UHD drive flashing guide 2025 (first post) should also have it.Tetsuo1981! wrote: ↑Mon Sep 29, 2025 4:14 pmBrilliant, thanks for that. FYI, you can also integrate players such as VLC, MPC-HC and probably others with MakeMKV so it can be used as the on-the-fly decrypter. Just so you know, direct disc playback is not recommended as it will wear out your drive faster! Much better (and safer for the discs!) to rip once and playback your MKV file as many times as you want.
Cheers
