I am new to this so please do not beat me up to hard this has been a lot to learn. I recently purchased a new drive for my computer (Ebay) where I found a drive that was highly preferred and reccomended, the LGWH16NS60. It was advertised as already being flashed and ready with the correct firmware. Anyways, I installed it today into my upgraded Optiplex and MakeMKV recognized the drive and I began to start my first BluRay rip with the new drive. It started to rip then began making a noise repeatedly. It eventually "locked up" and made no new progress. I switched to a different Bluray and this time it will not get passed the 1st stage of scanning the disc. This is contstantly my issue now.

Did I do something wrong? Below is the specs that are listed on the program screen. Perhaps I missed a step in installation?

High chance: This drive is defective.

Low chance: The laser lens is polluted and therefore the drive has a hard time reading. To clean the laser lens you need either open the drive and clean the lens with a cotton swab and alcohol or get a CD lens cleaning disc if you don't want to open it.

My opinion: Return it.

Unfortunately I cannot return it. The seller doesn't accept returns (of course).

I will try cleaning it like you recommended. Thanks for the advice.

Is the physical drive label consistent w/ MakeMKV output? Or, at least, indicate a viable candidate for (cross-)flashing?
