Hello all,

I am very new to ripping and recently wanted to start backing up my physical library in addition to my siblings to create a plex server for us. I recently purchased an LG WH16NS60 drive from eBay. It came with the orignal 1.0 firmware software. I booted it up on two standard blu ray discs and ripped them fine.

Today I received my first UHD blu ray disc in the mail. I went to load it in and while MakeMKV does eventually read the disc, it takes very long processing the files and opening the blue ray disc. The estimated time is 3+ hours.

I read on the on UHD Flashing master forum to upgrade to 1.02 MK for this model and followed Marty's GUI flasher tool to upgrade the drive to 1.02 MK. I am still getting very slow read times on the disc. Any pointers for someone new?

EDIT:
I am getting the same error on the same file over and over. Which may indicate a disc problem although the disc is brand new and cleaned again last night. Below is the log:

Well unfortunately, I may answer my own question. The bonus disc rips totally fine, not sure if the bonus disc is UHD though.

The movie disc is still producing a lot of errors just on one file, "Error 'Scsi error - HARDWARE ERROR:LOGICAL UNIT HAS NOT SELF-CONFIGURED YET' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00091.m2ts' at offset '0'"

I may have to return the disc and get a new disc, despite buying it brand new yesterday. Is that common that new discs wont read?

Clean the disc! It is common for brand new UHD discs to require cleaning before being able to be read.

If using an external drive, also ensure it is getting enough power. Use a USB-C port off the motherboard or an AC powered USB hub of at least 30W. Also, if the drive has 2 USB plugs, ensure you have both of them connected. Case ports are not recommended.

Ok thanks. So far I have used a damp microfiber cloth with a little dishsoap and then dry microfiber cloth wiping center outwards towards the end of the disc as recommended in other areas here.

I am using a Vantex Nestar SX2 enclsoure plugging directly into a blue motherboard usb 3.0 port.

Let me know if you have any cleaning tips much appreciated

Dishsoap never works for me but as I wear glasses I tried my glasses cleaner, works everytime it's a gentle but good at cleaning coated lenses.

Resolved! I was able to rip my first 4K UHD

The lens cleaner tip really helped, and I decided to air dry the disc overnight before applying any cloth wiping. Thanks for all your help, was my first time so now I know I need to be more diligent cleaning new discs.
