Kinda complicated?

Hello everyone and thank you to all those that provide solutions and support!!!

I haven't used optical media for a very long time, but recently I got to watch some archivists on YT and thought maybe I should backup all my movies and music.

I would rather get an external (slim) drive, so I'd like to ask you this: how can I be sure it'll work with LibreDrive and UHD ripping?
I mean, I'm looking at the Verbatim 43888 but:
1) since I'll have to order online, I won't be sure of the manufacturing and firmware date.
2) without plugging it, I won't know what drive it has inside.

These are available in my country, which would you choose, if not the 43888?

I can't thank you enough for your time!!! Thanks!

1) Irrelevant with regards to tthe Verbatim 43888.
2) The Verbatim 43888 only comes with a LG BU40N drive inside which can be flashed to enable LibreDrive and UHD readability.

Could the BU40N inside it be on a firmware version that won't be able to get flashed? Or is this particular model always flashable no matter whar?

A lot of the Verbatim slim-line drives available on eBay are still a Pioneer BDR-UD03 or BDR-UD04. The former can be flashed to the latter, which is usable for UHD-ripping in MakeMKV.

There are still (as of right now) listings for used Verbatim slim-lines for as low at $30. It may be worth taking a chance on. I don't think any Verbatim Blu-Ray has anything except for Pioneer BDR-UD03, UD04, or the BU40N, so worst case it you get another BU40N as a backup. Best case, you have a budget Pioneer.
