BU40N poor performance

Is it just my drive that behaves like a piece of junk? It's loud, but that can be forgiven in the end, but the worst thing is the loud head moving every 20 seconds when playing movies from discs. Is my burner faulty or is it just a feature of it?

The BU40N is better than any LG/ASUS internal 5.25" drive.
When I read such opinions, I laugh out loud, because I also have the LG WH16NS40 and this drive performs several classes better.

Even a good drive could become defective.
But first I would clean the lenses before throwing in the trash can.

You must have been one of the lucky one's! I've had hundreds of the LG internal drives and 9/10 were junk units that had to be returned. LG's QC went to sh!t around 2020. Drives before that were good. It was rare to get a bad one but since then has been the opposite.

I've been using a bu40n in a vantec enclosure for years now... its loud and likes to move around alot but anytime it starts to have trouble reading discs I just clean the lens off with a microfibre cloth and its back to running great... the lens on this thing loves to pick up dust I guess but as its lens is easily accessible it makes it easy to fix imho.
