Pioneer BD-RW BDR-209D - Flash or Not?

Post by BassGuitarRox »

Hi there,

1st time posting - hopefully not something super obvious sorry.

I have a Pioneer BDR-209D as far as I'm aware, it's still running the base firmware.

I've noticed it seems to be taking quite a while to rip DVDs and BluRays, I hadn't really paid much attention to the progress until today. I normally would just wait it out but I now have a big stack to get through and some of them are taking 30-60+ mins to rip.

I noticed a message on the progress screen that says:

Code: Select all

'Drive BD-RE PIONEER BD-RW BDR-209D 1.10 MLDL911171WL has RPC protection that cannot be bypassed. Change drive region or updated drive firmware from https://tdb.rpc1.org Errors likely to follow'
I've visited the link and had a quick look, but not sure if it's possible to flash this drive, unless I'm missing something?

I originally thought flashing was just for if I wanted to be able to rip 4k - If there is a way to flash my drive, will it make the process a lot quicker as it's not having to decrypt all the DVDs / BluRays please? I was a bit wary of flashing it and breaking anything or not being able to go back once it's been done.

Does anyone have a link or could possibly point me in the right direction so I can further look into this at all please?

Hope this makes sense - thanks for your time and help,

Andy

Hey Coopervid,

Apologies for the delay - thank you so much for your PM and for taking the time to send the instructions across. I've had to reply here because I didn't realise I can't send PMs myself.

I've managed to flash my drive to the S11 using the firmware provided, but I'm finding that the drive is now acting a bit unpredicatably. Is there anyway to revert the firmware back at all please? Or perhaps there's a more stable firmware I could try instead please?

It seems to still detect the drive fine in device manager as well as Windows Explorer, but it just doesn't detect discs anymore. (Just ejects the disc assuming the tray is empty - MakeMKV also believes there is no disc present now. I've tried everything I can think of to resolve it including removing it from my PC into another one and it seems to do the same thing so I think the issue lies with the drive itself.

So sorry to be a pain, really appreciate any help you can provide.

Seems to be a hardware issue, not a firmware. Have you tried to clean the laser lens? Try this. I can also send the original firmware but it won't help unless you can return it for warranty.
