LG wp50nb40 Drive Usage

Just bought the lg wp50nb40. I want to use it with makemkv. I have tried to use the Downgrade Enabled Firmware v.2, with the "All you need firmware pack". And the program just hangs. The firmware already on the drive is 1.03. I have tried running the program in admin, compatibility mode, and even tried using windows 7 (incase there was something built into W11 that I was unaware of). The same thing. The progress bar stays while/blank until I close the program with Task Manager. I tried letting it sit for 30 mins last night and still nothing.
The drive works if I put a CD or DVD in it. But if I put ANY Blu-ray disk in, nothing. Wont even recognize that there is even any media in the drive. And I would like to use it to back up my media.
I have seen some posts about cross grading firmware. But the posts were like 7 years old. Would that information still be valid after all this time?
Any help would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks in advance!

The red laser is for CD/DVD. You may have a dead blue laser if absolutely no blu-ray discs show up at all. Do they show in windows explorer? Ensure you have both USB connections plugged in. Use high powered ports if possible. USB-C is even better if you have a cable and an available port.
What tool are you trying to flash it with??
Try using SDFtool Flasher and follow the instructions/gif for BP50NB40 (they are the same drive).

I dont have a micro A to C cable but I will get one. I have been using the supplied double USB A to micro A cable that came with the drive. The drive has been plugged into the bad of my motherboard directly into the Blue USB 3 ports. As far as I am aware there are no issues with the USB data or power off of the board. If it would help me diagnose this issue I will give you all of the specs. But that might be overkill.
The flashing tool I have been trying to use is the "BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched" that I d/l off of this site. And the bios I have been trying to load is the "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin" from "The all you need firmware pack" also from this site.
Billy,
The drive spins up, and windows explorer shows the drive as busy. But then it spins down, and starts over again for a few mins before timing out and stopping. If I try to explore the drive after the spinning stops, explorer says that there is no media in the drive. When I put in a DVD or CD, it recognizes it right away. I even ripped a CD just to make sure. And it worked flawlessly.
I think I will order a USB C cable just to be sure and follow the link. Maybe there is a step I missed.
If you can think of anything else I would be grateful! TYVM!

Sounds more like a laser issue tnan a power issue. I'd return it.

Marty,
So I ordered a type C to micro USB cable. And it still doesnt see the disc. However, I have made further discoveries.
I used the SDFtool you linked to flash the drive and it worked. But still the BR that I am trying to backup was not viewable. So I tried a different BR. Same issue. So THEN I tried a BR from over 10 years ago that I pulled off the shelf and it saw it (and backed it up) no problem. The two BR's that I am trying to Backup are less than a year old. Could that be the problem? Could it be that they are employing some type of DRM that makes the disc not viewable to a PC only?
Thanks!

No, the disc protection is not an issue. LG drives can be very picky in what discs they read/don't read. Pioneer drives, less so as they are simply far better quality.
The best thing you can do is try cleaning those blu-ray discs before attempting to read them again. Also ensure you let the OS initialize the disc (you should see it in windows explorer) before opening MakeMKV.
