Should i proceed with flashing my new external Archgon

Post by doran_lum »

Hi all, thank you for sharing all the wonderful knowledge.

I just purchase a new Archgon MD-8107S-U3YC-UHD external drive and was about to follow the steps for flashing. But i decide to do a quick video test and on both different laptops i was not able to play any 4K or Blurray discs.

I attached the error when i use vlc to play the video, does this means after flashing there’s no way to rip my 4k discs collection ?

It needs to be libredrive enabled to allow 4K UHD readability.
Cheers :D

have you flashed the drive successfully already? if you have then from your picture, i see that your "Input path is wrong thats why vlc cant open the disc to read it"
you have to always manually choose "Bluray Path", not the "DVD path"
1) click on "Media Button at top left hand"
2) go to the 4th option, "Open Disc"
3) then you will need to manually tick on the button that says "Blu-ray"
4) last step, click on the "No disc menus" too

and on a separate note, in the makemkv software you have to manually "Integrate playback option too"

oh thanks, anyway i just want to rip my 4K collection so the objective is not to play it on my vlc player but to get it into my NAS and play it over Plex.

The drive isn't getting enough power and is probably having trouble reading the disc. Usually when a disc is hard to read, the drive wants more power to try and read it.

Try using USB-C, a powered hub (30w+) or even USB ports direct from the motherboard can sometimes help.
