Blu-ray reader isn't reading any discs

Post by veltrix »

My Blu-ray reader isn't reading any Blu-rays. I've already tried all the solutions I could think of, but nothing has worked. The reader is recognized and starts reading the Blu-rays, but after a while, it stops trying. The same thing happens with DVDs. I use debian linux as my main system. But the same is also the case with windows. I would really appreciate any help you can offer. This forum is truly my last hope!

Most likely your drive is missing sufficient power. Use an USB-C port or a powered USB hub.

Specifically, I am using the Verbatim 43888 drive, which is connected directly to the USB-C 3.2 port on my motherboard via a USB-C-to-USB-C cable. However, I am unsure whether a USB hub with its own power supply would make a difference. It would be worth a try. I found a thread describing the exact same issue I'm experiencing.

Even with USB-C from the mainboard it is possible that the port doesn't deliver enough power. The Verbatim enclosure is known to be very power hungry and I assumed that it is a Verbatim.
