WH16NS40 - Stops reading normal Blurays when ripping Sometimes

Post by homebdr »

Have a WH16NS40 drive with patched firmwarse (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440.bin). It is on a usb hub but I have also plugged it directly into my pc and it makes no difference. The issue I am seeing is reading a disc. I patched the drive for UHD but the discs I am having most trouble with are normal Blurays. The drive will start off reading the disc to hard drive and then all a sudden just stop. No lights anymore but the app I am using to read the disc freezes up as well due to the drive inactivity. Have up to 3 other usb drives and one being a pioneer and do not see this issue. The solution or work around ends up rebooting my pc. I have tried the drive on 3 different computers all desktops and 1 laptop. Various makes and models of which I can go into if needed.

Does anyone else have any symptoms like this? I would say it's a sleep bug but it happens usually right when I start to rip the disc to hard drive. Is the firmware I am using the best one or the latest one to run this drive smoothly? Came from mk-firmware-pack-20200720. I really just want to see if this happens to anyone else and get feedback from your experiences. Could be a bad drive. Could be the firmware. Could be alot of things but finding others who share this issue would be of most help. Or others who know if it and the direct fix.

Here is the other beauty. It doesn't happen all the time it's random lol. I can try the disc and it does this and then I can reboot and try it again it rips clean. How frustrating is that?

Thanks for your help on this matter.

The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide has a section 'Recommended Firmware to flash for MakeMKV' where it states:

WH16NS40 on any Firmware directly to > WH16NS60 1.02MK
