Can the Pioneer BDR-X12UBK be used for UHD or should I get another drive for UHDs?

I have a Pioneer BDR-X12UBK and it Plays/Rips 1080p Blurays fine under Linux, however if I put a UHD disc in it doesn't recognize the disc was put in (even though it says it supports BDXL quad layer, I tried a couple). I read you usually have to flash the firmware on a bluray drive to be able rip UHDs (not sure about just detecting a UHD disc). It's original firmware is from 2020, is it flash-able? I saw a warning about drives dated 2020. Or should I look into getting a different model drive for backing up UHD?

I'm considering buying a 4k of a film soon and unfortunately they don't bundle it with a standard bluray. I don't yet have a dedicated 4k player or even display. I'm just wanting to future-proof before it's out of print, if I do get the 4k version I'll need to play/rip it on a computer to even view it. I already have some 4k discs that have came in bundles with standard bluray, so even if I have to get another drive it's probably worth it to have the ability to back up those as well.

Sorry for the late reply I noticed some of my WB DVDs from 2007 were failing, so I had to move some files around to have room to back up up any surviving WB DVDs. Here is the output of makemkvs drive info

Just make I do it right. Is Windows 10 okay? Instructions say 95 or NT 4.0 (my laptop still has a small Window 10 partition installed, my desktop only has Debian 12). If I need a specific version of Windows is virtualbox okay or should I use qemu? (I'm more familiar with Virtualbox, but I have used qemu a bit)
