WH16NS40 NS50 1.05 Flashing question

Hello all,
I wanted to ask before I go much further.
I have a WH16NS40 NS50 drive that was shipped with 1.05 firmware made in Dec 2024.
When searching on the forum, there are a lot of different methods and things recommended for flashing this drive.
I have tried BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe and attempted to flash both the below:
DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_WH14NS40_1.02_NS50.bin
DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_WH16NS40_1.02_NS50.bin
When I tried that though, it gave me an error about a checksum mismatch and failed.
I am not sure this is due to the encryption on the newer drives of because I currently have it in a USB adapter.
I then stumbled on this post:

If I am reading this correctly, the drive would just need to be connected directly to the machine with MakeMKV installed and run this command for the recommended firmware (I did put it in the root of C).
makemkvcon64.exe f --all-yes -d "D": rawflash enc -i "C:\HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin"
Is that a correct assumption? I just got the drive and wanted to ask to make sure I am understanding what I read and prevent myself from bricking the new drive.
