Newbie wants to get a new drive for Blurays?

Post by Bsmooth »

I put all my music on hard drives ages ago. but I'm retired now and want to get my movies on there as well. I have a Cloner Box pro and also want to rip my Bluray collection to hard drive as well. I was thinking of this drive Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD. but I also heard the newer versions don't work with UHD disks any longer. This will probably sound stupid, but at my age now I'm not sure If I can see the difference between a UHD and Bluray. Biggest TV I can get is all of about 50".
I also just got Handbrake today as well, have to get MakeMKV next. With many going to UHD discs I'm hoping I can get someones great bluray collections cheap and rip them myself, but so far that hasn't happened yet, but I'm still looking.
Been watching movies a long time. Just joined too and glad I found this site

When looking over the list viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634, the XS07UHD is a supported drive. However, that page also has a PSA:
PSA now most Pioneers come with new fw that prevents them from be crossflashed or downgraded do not buy one for UHD at this time
I think I'm going to go with the LG Electronics BP60NB10 for now.
