LG BU40N

Hi

I have used a LG BU40N drive with a Vantec enclosure for 4,5 years without any problems and used the drive less than two weeks ago.
Yesterday i wanted to backup some new films and now Windows and MakeMkv 1.17.6 cannot recognize the drive. There hasn't been any signs until yesterday that the drive should be broke.

The drive spins the disc for 10 seconds when connected to a PC, but nothing happens after that.

I have tried to change cable and tried connecting to two other PCs without luck.

Is the drive just broke or is there anything i could try?

It possible just the case died you can try replacing it.
But before doing that does the drive still get assigned a driver letter and show up in device manager.

You can also try cleaning the laser it very easy on that drive just eject the tray and both lasers are there I recommend cleaning it with a lint free cloth and some alcohol don't let it air dry have another dry lint free cloth to dry it.

If the drive is still showing in Windows, you could try downgrading MakeMKV to a previous version.

Vantec used to sell a slim optical drive case, but they stopped selling it a couple of years ago.

That will work sold a few like that because the slim cases went downhill at the end that's why they stopped making them I think

Windows has not assigned a drive letter and it does not show up in device manager.

I will try to clean up the laser and see if that helps.

Otherwise I probably need to find a new drive as I understand from the posts above that the vantec enclosure is discontinued.

I can see the drive in windows device manager under the dvd/cd-rom drive section.
In properties for the drive windows states: STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE.
I will try a new case first.
Any case recommendations?
I took the Vantec back in the days, because it allowed to flash the drive.
I guess that feature is no longer needed as the drive has been flashed. Is that correct, and then can i pick any case that fits the drive?

Actual slim sata cases are getting hard to find you still want one that can flash just in case and to know it can pass through libredrive commands

Lately I have just been recommending full size vantec 5.25 with 9.5mm bay adapters and some slim sata connecter adapters to full size sata
