I was successful in ripping the Bluray to an mkv, but VLC and/or my Optical Drive (BU40N) wont play the disc. It's a region A disk, and i thought firmware 1.04 was supposed to unlock the regions. Which do I address first, the drive or VLC?

If you successfully made a .mkv from the blu-ray, I'm not sure why you're trying to play the disc?

I have no idea why VLC won't play the disc if you've got VLC checked on the integration tab in MakeMKV's preferences. It isn't a feature I ever take advantage of.

The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide recommends, however, that LG BU40N drives be flashed to 1.03 firmware. I have no idea if that matters for disc playback.
BU40N on any Firmware directly to > BU40N 1.03MK
