Noob here - trying to flash my drive using SDFtool Flasher so MakeMKV can read 4k movies.
Info:
Drive - LG Electronics WH14NS40 14X Blu-ray/DVD/CD Multi compatible Internal SATA Rewriter Drive, BDXL, M-DISC Support, Black (BD-RE WH14NS40)
Current firmware revision: 1.05
SDFtool Flasher v 1.3.5
MakeMKV v1.17.6
Windows 10
Trying to flash to: HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936
Behavior:
SDFtool Flasher identifies my new drive correctly.
Select the above noted Firmware file from the "The all you need firemware pack" extracted files
Note that MT1959 Platform is checked
Note that Encrypted Firmware is checked
Select READ Firmware -
This downloads and writes the dump file to my disk: dump_user_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH14NS40_1.05_212005061444_KLZO2LB1154
Select WRITE Firmware -
This immediately comes back with a pop up window with the following text: "Command produced error code 0x82000000".
I've tried this multiple times.
Rebooted the computer.
BD drive plays DVD movies fine.
What am I missing?
Thanks,
Tony

The serial number says this drive was from 2018... Perhaps prior to encryption... Does it work if you UNcheck enc?

Also, how is the drive connected to the PC?
Did you make sure there is no disc in the drive?

Thanks for the quick replies.
1) "The serial number says this drive was from 2018... Perhaps prior to encryption... Does it work if you UNcheck enc?"
Actually, the label on the bottom says "Manufactured: February 2024"
Also - how did you get the serial number from the info I provided?
I did try unchecking the 'enc' option, with no change in results.
2) "Also, how is the drive connected to the PC?
Did you make sure there is no disc in the drive?"
Drive is installed internally via SATA cable.
No disk in the drive.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Tony

Is this an AMD PC? Or have you it connected to an port that is provided by an additional chip? Then switch ports.

Coopervid's comments:
"Is this an AMD PC? Or have you it connected to an port that is provided by an additional chip? Then switch ports."
1) This is an Intel PC.
2) There are 4 SATA ports on the motherboard. This drive is plugged into the same one previously occupied by my last DVD player. It worked, and this new drive 'worked' fine for playing DVDs.
Here's the kicker: since I had a spare port, I went ahead and swithced the cables over to the open SATA port.
WE HAVE A WINNER!!
No idea why, but Coopervid's suggestion wins the day!
Thanks, dude!
Was able to easily run MakeMKV after switching ports and rebooting. Now seeing the new firmware.
Thanks all!
Tony

I have heard on the very rare occasion that ports 0 and 1 may not work for flashing. This may be the case here.
