I bought a Pioneer BDR-S13J-X from Japan off Ebay from a seller in Japan after confirming the manufacture date with the seller that it was prior to December 2022. The drive arrived today and unfortunately the manufacture date is listed as July 2023. When using makemkv, I see that the drive is not LibreDrive. Any way possible to make this drive LibreDrive compatible, as firmware on it shows a date of December 12, 2022.

Why are we buying it from Japan when I have ones with old fw right here in the USA?
Instead of getting the jx/ux from Japan you could have got the s13ubk from me for cheaper the ux is $290+ my s13ubk is $273 and guaranteed to have old fw and it's tested. But I do also offer the ux but really the s13ubk is 90+% as good as the ux and is what I would recommend for most.

All firmwares after 12/2022 are doomed and can't read UHD. So no, don't flash any drive that has older firmware. You will lose all options for flashing to be UHD capable.

I bought a Pioneer BDR-S13J-X from Ebay in Japan.
Unfortunately also here, a flashback to 1.02 is not possible.
I once had a Pioneer BDR-S13JBK and it was 1.05 on it.
Now I have replaced this drive only the boards and drives still work, only UHD 4K not possible.
Isn't there a trick to change this from 1.05 to 1.02 via hex editor?
It must be a query that you can only flash higher number, you would have to change that to lower number. Can't someone do that?
