Pioneer BDR-S13UBK & MacOS Monterey 12.7.2

Post by jositoft »

I have a MacPro5,1 running ML OpenCore 0.9.7 with Monterey 12.7.2. I had an LG drive that was dying. Every burn lately has been a coaster, even switching media. I replaced it with a Pioneer BDR-213UBK. This new drive seems to be causing kernel panics which cause the screen to go dark and for me to have push the power button, which shuts the computer down. I then have to turn it back on. It seems the new drive is going to sleep and upon trying to wake it, it crashes. Of course, Pioneer's mac drive management software is paltry, at best. When the drive works, it has an amazing success rate. I would hate to get rid of it but can't live with these crashes. Any help would be appreciated. Have included the crash log below. Thank you in advance!

I'm just guessing, but maybe there's a eco mode or something on the drive that's causing trouble? The first line of the dump suggests a SCSI peripheral is trying to set a power state and panicking the kernel. Maybe there's a way to turn any eco modes off?

Also, kudos to you for rockin' a cheese grater. Do you have a 2010 Westmere or a 2012 Nehalem?
