Hi All
I am new to UHD ripping and am already struggling with the general understanding...
I read some basic posts here, and which drives are recommended. So, one of them should be the 16D1HT.
So this one was under sale, and I bought one and connected the drive now.
So, first, I was surprised that I saw nothing in MakeMKV. I see only the drive information:
OS device name: F:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.11
Firmware date: 2120-12-01 17:59
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 75
After some research in the forum, I read that it will only be shown when a disk is inside... but this was also not working.
So I downloaded the tool Flasher, and the tool showed me the following:
So, was it "bad" luck that this drive had the wrong chipset?
Or is it expected that this will be shown with some firmware?
I didn't flash the drive because I am unsure if this will break it.

You should have a section of the output that says what hardware is found, under "LibreDrive". That is assuming your version of MakeMKV is less than 5 years old. Did you forget to post it, or was it missing?

Nvm it was a layer 8 problem. The usb adapter which I have used wasn't suited for it. Directly connecting the drive to the pc resolved the issue

Guide has a solution for this...
Use this -t mtk19xx in front of your command
This happens when makemkv does not know the drive
Or you could always buy my automated flasher from me for this I have seen these around for years see below for details

Glad is was only the damn adapter. Check this. It's cheap and works also for flashing.

I bought this drive twice from amazon, first once died very fast. second drive had a very recent manufacturer date, they must have changed something in the hardware, it still works, I've ripped many blu rays. the newest drive had the same firmware which I couldn't find a flasher for. this isn't an advertisement, just an endorsement for BillyCar, he gave me a flasher for this drive and it worked. my drive has been inside a nexstar DX2 external case and other than having to power on and off the case a few times at the beginning it seems to be running fine, in fact I'm ripping a blu ray right now. As recommended by Billycar, I will get a Pioneer drive if this one breaks.
