BU40N NO SVC code is it safe to flash

Post by BIGTOM221 »

Hello everyone. My Jedi skill are lacking somewhat the force is weak I try as much as possible to just read the help threads but this one is avoiding-me. I need some help and I would be appreciative if anyone can comment or point me in the right direction I am sorry if I have posted in the wrong place can a moderator move the topic or point me in the right location apoligies before hand if I have posted in the wrong palce.

I purchased a bare bones Hitachi-LG BU40N Internal UHD Blu-Ray/DVD Drive/Burner, Slim 9.5 mm.

I am aware you can only flash a LG drive with the SVC NS50+ LG only on label. My BU40N has no SVC code so how can I know if it is safe to flash this drive or not. Picture attached.

Can anyone comment as I would hate to flash that drive to find I have bricked it. Looking forward to your comments.

The SVC code requirement is specific to LG drives w/ 2 different HW versions like *H14NS40/*H16NS40. In these cases, SVC NS50 drives were made AFTER ~Oct 2015 using a different, UHD capable chipset.

Rather than being hung up on labels, the Drive/LibreDrive Information output of MakeMKV is (IMO) easier to interpret:

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS40
Revision:
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2117-04-25 17:56 (year + 100... no one has explained why, to date)
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 56

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled (good to go) / Possible (needs updated FW)
Drive platform: MT1959 (UHD capable) / MT1939 (too old for UHD support)
Firmware type: Original (unpatched) / patched

In your case, w/ a BU40N, I believe all are compatible &1st post of the guide will have all the required info.

No worries. It's easy to get lost in all the "noise" in a forum. Stick w/ the guide (1st post), which is regularly maintained, & you'll at least have current intel.
