Unable to burn after flashing?

Hi,
I was having trouble ripping a bluray disc, so I thought I would try flashing in the corresponding MK firmware for my drive to see if it would help. I'm not sure what will be relevant with my problem, so I'm going to walk through the flow I went through. It turned out the MK firmware didn't help with that disc, but now that I flashed in the MK firmware for my WH16NS40 drive, I thought I'd try ripping a UHD disc I have to my media server. It worked, but took a really long time. A little later I happened to go into Nero Burning ROM to burn some unrelated stuff to a single layer bluray disc. Turns out Nero wouldn't let me burn anymore. I tried various reboots, reflashing, etc. Couldn't get Nero to burn anything with the drive. Nero would just error out and say the media was invalid.
Since it took so long to rip the UHD disc and I wasn't able to rip that other disc, I was thinking that the drive was maybe failing or that I maybe messed up the flashing somehow, so I bought a new drive, a WH16NS60.
I flashed this new drive to the corresponding MK firmware. I was able to rip a couple bluray discs and I was able to burn the stuff I was trying to burn with Nero too, so I thought all was good. I then decided to re-ripped that UHD disc I had too just to see if the rip time was better. The time was a lot better, was somewhere in the 1-2 hour ballpark if I recall. So good there too. A couple days later now, I needed to burn some more stuff with Nero, but once again, Nero won't let me burn. It is a brand new drive and worked just a couple days ago.
It is making me wonder if it has something to do with me ripping the UHD disc since both my drives seem to have stopped being able to write after that event. Like, does ripping a UHD disc put the drive in some sort of "different" mode to read the UHD disc which affects how my computer sees writeable bluray media. Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice? With the MK firmware, should I be able to go between reading UHD discs and writing media through Nero?
Thanks!
