Why did you drop to 1.02? My drive came with 1.03 so I used 1.03 MK version and it seems to work well, except for a loud grinding sound.

Hummm... It may be worth the trouble to flash mine again. Anyone else see the grinding go away with 1.02?
Im not 100% sure I can go down to 02 since this drive came from the factory with 03 on it.

i mean have you read the the guide it specifically says to go to 1.02 from any firmware including 1.03.
but i dont think it will fix your grinding sound some drive are are louder and quieter then others i would just be happy if you have a drive that does not get read errors and deal with the sound

No errors yet. So, no good reason to downgrade to 02? I'd rather not.
Thanks for the response.

Okay, I downgraded to 1.02. Gear grinding noise still there. It's not worse than 1.03.
Read rate max: 7.4X (MakeMKV BETA speed setting on)
Reading Dune 1984 4K. Single movie file only. No gear noise during long read. Some gear noise at start as it did the math to read a 4K disk. No worse than firm 1.03. Maybe better. No way to tell.
I see no reason to reflash back to 1.03 at this time. If something comes up ill post about it here.
Good luck.
Update: The MakeMKV speed up registry hack causes problems at 4K layer changes so I turned it off. 11.7X was great as long as it worked but it didn't work well. Also even when your discs look very clean wipe them off with a non scratching rag meant for glasses. I was having issues with the 84 Dune and it turned out to be invisible gunk on it. Firmware 02 or 03 still doesn't seem to matter so I stayed with 02. Remember to reboot after changes.
