US UHD Drive rip region 12 4k UHD?

Post by nicholfd »

Hello,

Here's my drive info:
Drive Information
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: MZRJ74G1743
Firmware date: 2120-05-06 11:42
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.04
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

I see DVD all regions: Yes. Because it says "DVD", it's not clear to me if that applies to Blu-ray & 4K.

I'm looking to buy the 1984 Dune movie on 4K UHD, but I can only find it as a region 12 disc:
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Dune-UHD-Blu-ray ... 8&qid=&sr=

I know the movie is old, and I have the DVD version. The Blu-ray version is only $6.99 USD. The region 12 4K UHD version is $28.88.

Will my drive rip the region 12 4K UHD version? Because the movie is so old, do you think I should just buy the Blu-ray version vs. the 4K UHD version?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

Yes it will rip fine even if it's a different region but I don't think any UHD discs have region locks.
And region are a b c not 12 that might just be the age rating.
Buy a UHD drive from the guide and how to video maker: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 20&t=17831

Thanks for the quick reply. I saw it was sold by Amazon, and now see it's Amazon UK (I'm in the US)- so whichever A, B, C region that is. And you're probably right - "12" in the circle is the age rating. They want another $13 for shipping. I'm not willing to pay that much. I'll just pick up the US Blu-ray version with free shipping.

Thanks!
