Baffalo BRUHD-PU3 BU13 to BU10 failure

Hello everyone on this board!!

The BRUHD-PU3 I purchased had a FW of BU13.

mkv reports:
-------------------------------------
Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: BUFFALO
Product: Optical Drive
Revision: BU13
Serial number: MO3L3HG2314
Firmware date: 2120-09-25 11:00
Bus encryption flags: 1F

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

No disc inserted
-------------------------------------

When I tried to downgrade using the following post as a reference, I got "updating failure #5".
viewtopic.php?t=23515

Can't BU13 be downgraded?

downgrade step
1. HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BU12-OM01001-211902230922.bin <- "updating failure #5"
2. DE_Buffalo_BRUHD-PU3_BU10 OR DE_LG_BU40N_1.00

thanks for any help.

Thanks for posting!

I tried Flashing "BU40N 1.03mk", but the same error occurred.

Did you figure out how to patch it?
I also have a BRUHD-PU3-BK13 with the BU13 firmware.
I tried the 'ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified).exe' tool with multiple firmwares (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin, DE_Buffalo_BRUHD-PU3_BU10.bin, DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin, HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BU12-OM01001-211902230922.bin) without success.
I also tried them with sdftool_flasher.exe with and without encryption and I get an error each time.

I would really appreciate if someone can explain how to get LibreDrive on a BRUHD-PU3-BK13 with BU13.

Do't use the old ASUS flasher. Use the SDFtool Flasher (with "enc").

I don't think the problem is with the tool but with the firmware.
This thread is about patching the Buffalo drive that has BU13 (not BU12).
I am using sdftool with HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BU12-OM01001-211902230922.bin (and I tried others too).
It fails whether I check the encryption or not.

step.
1.Get SDFtool Flasher v1.2.0 *The latest version, v1.2.2, does not have the "enc?" option, so 1.2.0 must be used.

3.Flash DE_Buffalo_BRUHD-PU3_BU10.bin not with "enc?" option

I'm so grateful. :D

The new SDFtool Flasher v1.2.2 applies "enc" automatically when an encrypted firmware is detected.

Your issue is that BU13 is pretty new and hasn't been added to the encrypted firmware list yet.

Can you open the flasher again (don't run it, just open it) and select your drive in the first drop box. I need you to write down exactly what is showing for your drive in the drop box and let me know. I can then add it to the encrypted firmware list.

Here is the name showed in the tool for the Buffalo drive: BUFFALO_Optical_Drive_BU13_212009251100_MZFL3HI1042
Thanks for looking into it.

I figured out why it kept failing: The external buffalo drives comes with two usb cables (for 'boost' although I am not sure as the doc is in japanese or chinese).
If you only plug the large one then apply the steps provided by nodisknolife below, then it works:

0. only plug the main USB cable.
1.Get SDFtool Flasher v1.2.0 *The latest version, v1.2.2, does not have the "enc?" option, so 1.2.0 must be used.
download/file.php?id=3035
2.Flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin with "enc?" option
3.Flash DE_Buffalo_BRUHD-PU3_BU10.bin not with "enc?" option

Also, It looks like it is possible to then apply the optional microcode patch:
4. Flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin without enc? option (i.e unchecked)

Ok, so that means BU13 is not encrypted. You just didn't plug in all the USB connectors! You should always plug both USB's in otherwise the drive does not get enough power to fulfill the drive's power and data requirements.

Thanks Billy, but that doesn't say for sure if it is encrypted or not. The person who flashed his drive also didn't mention if he used "enc" or not. Also, that was more than a month ago. If it is in fact encrypted, the encrypted firmware list needs updating.
