I've read a lot of threads and guides and still having issues. First post, sorry if in wrong place.
I started here https://www.swedetrap.com/how-to-rip-4k ... ray-discs/ and bought same drive. From posts on this board it seems to be a popular one. I am using Windows 10 and have it plugged in to a usb-c port.

I think I went down this path partially before and then stumbled.

I didn't find a direct match for: "BU40N 1.03MK"

I found two so far
1) HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin in the Mk-firmware-pack

2) HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934 which is from the "All you need firmware pack"?

Do I use one of those?

Thanks for the help!

Thank-you that worked.

I was able to use MakeMKV now on an UHD disks. I also paid for the copy of MakeMKV.

Does anyone know if there is a ROM that is safe to flash to this drive to make it AnyDVD friendly as well?

No, there isn't one. Slim drives cannot be made "friendly" for AnyDVD usage.

Ok thanks! I can now rip mkv files for our NAS from our UHD disks so I am happy with that!

I really appreciate the help and the great software :)

Hi,

I made a mistake.

I flash my BU40N Lg Drive directly to the 1.04 original firmware.

I need to flash it with the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin firmware or with the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin firmware.

I get the same message :
"ChekSum is mismatched.
Drive will go to boot mode
Please retry again."

I didn't manage to flash it with downgrade tool (Both with Friendly Firmware Pack and Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2)

I didn't understand clearly if it is finally possible or not.

Can you please make me see the light ?

Cheers.

"enc" is for "encrypted", all right.

But what do I do ?

I have to use SDF tool ?

Allright,

I follow the tutorial under "How to flash[...] and commands", at viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634#p74718, recommanded here.

I copied the firmware to the c: root, open cmd in "execute" (not Powershell) and write :

"cd C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV

makemkvcon64.exe f --all-yes -d E: rawflash enc -i C:\HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin"

where "E:" is MY path drive (be careful).

And it flashed ! :D

Thank you very much, guys, and see you. :)

Are you perhaps starting from an encrypted FW & NOT using the 'enc' switch?

Paraphrased from above:

- Remove disc in optical drive, if any.

- Copy HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin to c:\

- Open 'Command Prompt" (not Powershell) and (assuming your drive letter is E:) execute:

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV

makemkvcon64.exe f --all-yes -d E: rawflash enc -i C:\HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin
