LG BU40N PowerDvD playback

Post by mick3lson »

I've successfully downgraded 1.04 LG BU40N to 1.03mk with Startech SLSODDU33B enclosure, is there any chance to playback UHD discs on the fly without ripping on the hard-disk, I've try but there is an error, with my other desktop rig and WH14NS40 work flawlessy.

See also this thread. You must have a SGX system.

The other possibility is running AnyDVD in the background but it only works with friendly drives like your WH14NS40. The BU40N is an official drive so that is not an option.

My laptop is completely compatible with i7 8750H cpu and UHD 630 gpu onboard. My doubt is that the Startech enclosure is not compatible with powerdvd playback. If I buy Vantec NST-510S3-BK 9.5mm slim sata case there is some chance that will work or BU40N not support powerdvd playback, someone tried.

I doubt it that this will help. Check on Cyberlinks's site the reason for the error code you receive when trying to play an UHD.

Run the UHD advisor I have tested the BU40N to work for official playback but powerdvd is extremely buggy and with all requirements met most times it does not work it likes certain versions of Intel me.
But you can do unofficial playback easy with makemkv + vlc easy
Buy a UHD drive from the guide and how to video maker: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 20&t=17831

makemkv + vlc not even work on dell xps 15 9570 laptop with cpu i7 8750H and SGX is already enabled in BIOS, you can point me wich one are the steps to take, I already have checked the integration with vlc on makmkv preferences.
At moment I have 1.03 firmware, is the best choice?

How are you opening nthe disc in vlc

You should use the open disc menu select Blu-ray and then it should work

Yes I use the same steps on vlc to open the UHD discs, my doubt at this point is the startech enclosure that is not compatible, in europe where I can buy Vantec NST-510S3-BK 9.5mm slim sata case.

I think you are on the wrong track with the enclosure. Just try to rip this UHD you want play without ripping. What happens when you rip the disc to the hard drive? If this works nothing is wrong with the enclosure.

Yeah it's not the case if you can open the disc in makemkv.
If you are running the trial version of makemkv it won't work in vlc you need to buy a key but right now that's impossible so you need to use the beta key try that and re make sure you have integration checked

The issue has been solved, it was the trial version, now direct playback work with vlc. Thanks for your support.
