LG WH16NS40 1.05 RMA Drive not flashing

Hey guys,

I just sent my WH16NS40 drive out to LG for RMA work and received a new (refurbished I'm sure) drive in the mail from them. The new drive has a manufacturing date of December 2020.

Its current FW is: HM-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS40_1.05_212005061440_KZNKCOB3944

I can't get this drive to flash into any other FWs. I am using the SDF tool and MK FWs from the below thread.
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634

I always click the "enc?" before flashing and always restart after for the changes to take effect. I have tried flashing to the "WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900..." FW as well as the WH16NS60 version of it but can't get it to take. In case there was some kind of visual bug I then tried to flash to an older FW but no go.

FWIW I also tried flashing it using a copy of the "HL Data Storage" flashing tool as well but that also didn't work.

In the past I have successfully flashed 3 separate Drives to older FWs but this new one seems to be giving me issues. Am I doing something obviously wrong or is this a new FW from LG that needs to be examined?

Thanks in advance for the help!
JM

I just realized that this error message is popping up for the SDFTool.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the drive not flashing. Is there another flasher i could test? If so can you link me to it?

I feel dumb. Thanks for clearing this up.

At this point do i need to downgrade the FW to something like 1.02 in order to rip 4K blurays or will the current FW do it?

i recommend wh16ns60 1.02 if you use makemkv if you use other stuff just leave it the current firmware will work with 4K UHD

I know this is an old post bit i just ran into this with my new WH16NS40. As advised above i just went with the wh16ns60 1.02 firmware and the drive flashed and worked right away. Just in case anybody runs into the same issue.
