Pioneer Utility or new Firmware

Post by Jonas_ »

Hi,
I'm totally new to Blu-ray Ripping so I just read a few articles about what I need and got the Pioneer BDR-XS07TUHD Drive, because it seemed good and I haven't even thought about the possibility that UHD Disks need special drives.
So I tried it with a normal Blu-ray (worked fine) but with a 4K UHD Blu-ray get:
Error 'SCSI-Error - Illegal Request:Cannot write medium - incompatible format' and:
Error 'SCSI-Error - Illegal Request:Copy Protection key exchange failure - key not established'
Then I found this forum and saw that Pioneer Drives aren't good for UHD Ripping but I also saw that there might be a workaround soon (I think that post was from mid 2019) and saw the post from Woodstock:

Allegedly, Pioneer has a Windows-only (last I found it) utility for removing the rip lock restriction. They refer to it as keeping the drive quiet when used in a home theater application. It used to come on the driver disk that came with the drive, but... when was the last time you saw a driver disk?

Edited to add:

Last year, user Chris Kelly posted a link to the Pioneer setup disk on their Japanese site. I just verified that the link is still active; it takes you to their disclaimer page, which you can then agree to sign your human rights away to get the setup program:

https://pioneer.jp/cgi-bin/device/downl ... _setup.exe
And I installed the Pioneer BD Drive Utility and in 'Settings2' I choose 'Quiet Mode' but it still didn't work. Should I change any other settings?
Or are there any new Firmware flashes, workarounds or anything to Rip UHD-Disk with my Drive?

If not: I still can return the Drive. Which other Drive should I get for UHD-Ripping?

And is there anything that I should know to rip FHD and UHD Blue Rays and DVDs for a Plex Server?

Any help would be highly appreciated

The utility is just for unlocking the read speed on pioneers.
No news on the firmware yet to make it rip uhd.
But if your going to get a new one to do so I recommend the BU40N

So if I get this Drive
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B071CP ... B7XF&psc=1
and this enclosure
https://www.amazon.de/Vantec-3-0-Slim-O ... 446&sr=8-3
I just put the drive in the enclosure, connect it to my PC via USB and run your automated flasher?
And then I can rip FHD Blu-rays, UHD Blu-rays and DVDs?
