Hey guys,

first of, wow and thanks for this amazing forum. Just came across it, a week after I bought my blu-ray burner.

My situation looks as follows:

I got a Techpulse120 with this informations

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: -
Firmware date: 2120-05-06 11:42
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 61

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.04
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)

BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)
Full HD blu-rays are no problem to rip. Tho I am not able to watch them or even rip 4K blu-rays (the former is not my number one priority).
full-error-log.txt
Complete error log due to character limit
(65.89 KiB) Downloaded 357 times

Code: Select all

MakeMKV v1.16.1 win(x64-release) started

Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
Downloading latest HK to C:\Users\USERNAME/.MakeMKV ...
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\USERNAME/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v61_THE_MATRIX_2077.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Backup failed
I tried to rip the 4K blu-ray on Linux and Windows on two different machines, with the same errors. (Got only this one, so no other 4K disc for comparison)
After my assumption, the firmware of the drive is the problem. (No signs of inssuficent power for the drive, blu-ray "The Matrix" was released 2 years ago and other users reported successful rips, I don't try to rip from an ISO/backup - https://www.makemkv.com/faq/item/11)

All of these drives will need to be flashed to unlock UHD Reading/Ripping

...
LG BU40N, UHD Official Internal Slim Sata 9.5mm
...
Here Billycar11 suggests
BU40N on any Firmware directly to > BU40N 1.03MK
Is this also true for the above mentioned 1.04? I didn't found a 'BU40N 1.03MK'-firmware

With the SDFtool I already tried to dump the current firmware of my drive with 'READ Firmware' but only got the user data 'dump_user_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.04_212005061142_[SERIALNUMBER].tar'

Last but not least, I'm a bit confused about the encrypted firmwares here:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634
Newer OEM Firmwares and encrypted:

New Encrypted firmware
List of Know Encrypted firmware (so far, any firmware with date in 2020 is encrypted)
...
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-N000500-212005061142.bin
...

LG 1.04+ / BU40N 1.03 / Asus 3.10+ and similar
...
I guess this affects my device but couldn't find out where to see the exact installed firmware of my drive (which is why I tried to dump it with the SDFtool, like mentioned above). I only can asume it's something like HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-XXXXXXX-212005061142
...and there is no MK version of the same firmware/drive model or higher number...
But there is the, again, above mentioned 'HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin', so I can use this?

My questions would be, did I miss anything? And if not, can I just flash it with "mk-firmware-pack-20200720 \ MK \ HL-DT-ST\BU40N-N-Main \ HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin" and the SDFtool? Is the 'DE'-firmware (DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin) any use to me?

I hope my thoughts are not too confuesd.
In advance I would like to thank you for every bit of advice.

Hi,

i have exactly the same drive, with the same firmware (with that weird firmware date) and run into exactly the same problem. Only difference: I'm using MacOS, and my makemkv version is 1.16.3

mark96, did you find a solution to your problem?

Regards,
Brima
