Update to 1.15.4 = "No Disc Inserted" error

Post by oatmeal769 »

Went to rip a new disc. Inserted it, and MakeMkV read it just fine and was ready to rip. Then I saw that version 1.15.4 was available, so I closed the program, downloaded 1.15.4 and updated my software. I rebooted and made sure the registration was still active.

Now it won't read the disc. It churns for a while as normal, then ends with "No Disc Inserted."

Any ideas?

Yes, it sees the drive. I don't know if it sees the actual disc inside it?

Ok. Well, the device manager shows the name of the drive. I don't know how to make Win10 show what the title of the disc is?

Hmm. No, it does not. File explorer shows that I have a BD-RE drive there, but it doesn't read the title.

Okay, cool, thanks for helping me narrow it down. I'll see what I can figure out there.
Is there any way that updating makemkv did it? Or, if something happened in my system when the update was applied? Everything was fine and ready to rip the title just before I did the update.

probably noting makemkv did.
give the pc a full shut down and turn off the powersupply or unplug it and hold the power button for 10 seconds see if ti works after that.
you can also try reflashing it that has worked for some but i would leave that as the last resort

That did it. I cold-booted into safe mode where it did see the drive, and then a normal boot-up where everything works.
I had restarted a couple of times but didn't do an actual shut-down and cold boot-up. Most of the time a restart fixes everything wonky on my PC. Guess I had to let the memory completely purge. I was sure it was makemkv after the software update.
I appreciate your helping me run that down, Billycar!!

Yes, but only a reset (or cold boot) tells the hardware to re-initialize.
