Hi, thanks for the tool!
I'm trying to read/play/rip UHDs
forgive me if I missed the answer, I combed through 33 pages.

me:
Win10 x64 (administrator)
Model: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.02_212012011716_MOEL91I1100
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BC9F98J/
the Archgon.
connected via USB. Slimline.

Firmware chosen: DE_LG_BU40N_1.00
results:
"Command produced error code 0x8f052603"

please help
:(
Make sure there is no disc in the drive and the tray is closed.
Make sure you using the latest version of the SDFtool flasher, which does detect the Archgon 1.02 firmware as encrypted.
You can't flash 1.00 directly. Flash to 1.03-MK first, then flash to 1.00.
flawless victory!! Woooo I'm now watching the 1st 4k UHD blu-ray title I've ever purchased! Worked great, thanks again guys for all your help!
P.S. For this drive, should I stick w/ this firmware as-is, or is there another cross-type I should flash w/ (to get faster reads of UHDs?)
Thanks again!!
I recommend 1.00 as it is the most software compatible.
Cheers :D

Getting an input string format error when I select my ASUS drive (see attachment).
The popup lets me continue on, but I'm leary of pulling the trigger on drive flashing after the error.

Note: there is no status on the 'Encrypted Firmware' field (after selecting the ASUS drive).

Ok, it looks like SDFtool Flasher is having trouble with the encrypted firmware check for the ASUS drive. I'll look into that. Please use the old version in the meantime.
Cheers :D

Thanks for getting me going!

Hi friend,

I am a LONG TIME MakeMKV user (legacy permanent license over here) and I just wanted to THANK YOU for the hard work you put into this updater.

I am starting to pick up 4K blurays and was concerned that I would need to purchase another bluray drive, but your work made it so I did not have to.

So far, I confirmed that my drive still works (LG BP50NB40 upgraded to the 1.03 MK firmware), so I am excited to test out my new 4K discs coming in :)

Keep up the great work and THANK YOU AGAIN!

You will need to cross-flash it as BP50NB40 firmware is not UHD capable. For the BP50NB40 to be able to rip UHD, the recommended firmware is BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00.
Cheers :D

Before I came back, I had figured that out. I have had no issues cross flashing the BP60NB10 1.00-MK firmware :).

Hi guys,
at first, sorry for my questions and my horibble English.
I`m newby and I need to help with flashing my new drive. As I read on UHD flashing guide updated 2022, I`ve bought slim drive LG BU40N and Vantec NST-510S3-BK 9.5mm slim sata case.
SDFtool flasher v1.3.3 show HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.04_212005061142_MO5KB3H0719
I`ve downloaded mk-firmware-pack-20200720, where is located some firmwares for this drive. Folder BU40N-N-Main contain a HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin
I don`t understand how to find right fw for flashing.
MartyMcNuts wrote to Bilbo (page 34) that first must flash firmware to 1.03-MK and next steps is flashing to 1.00. But when I`ve downloaded a MK firmware pack from first page of this thread, ther isn`t any 1.03-MK firmware. There is only fw which I mentioned above.
Please, which one is right for me? 1.03MK (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin) or HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.04_212005061142_MO5KB3H0719 ?
Without this information I really worried do anythig with drive. I won`t to destroy it. Please help me.
Thank you for any advice.

BU40N 1.03-MK is in the "MK\old" folder of the MK firmware pack.

Hi,
thank you very much for answer.
I`d like to ask you again to the same thing.
Please, what is your reommendation for first step. 1.03-MK or newer 1.04-MK?
Before first flashing may I mark "Encrypted Firmware" or not mark?
Many many thanks.

1.03-MK as first step. SDFtool Flasher will automatically perform encrypted firmware check and apply flag if needed.
Cheers :D

Hey MartyMcNuts (and everyone else involved in helping flash drives),

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for your work. I replaced my old 2013 WH14NS40 with a WH16NS60. My firmware flash wasn't as straightforward as it could've been, so here are some details for future readers:

I'm on Windows 7 Pro, so the latest version of the SDFtool Flasher failed to launch with a message of "The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-winrt-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I see another user ran into this problem back in 2021, but when they asked about it, no one answered. So, I tried using the older version (v1.2.0). When I tried writing HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin to the drive I got an error message saying it couldn't read the .bin file. When I clicked OK... ...it uh... ...wrote the firmware to the drive anyway. The whole process felt a little sketch, but when I tried to rip a disc I couldn't rip with my old drive, it ripped great! (Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition part 1).

So, I hope nothing crazy went wrong that I'll never know about, but given that the drive is ripping successfully... ...all's well that ends well?
