The tar file does not contain the complete fw from your drive. It only contains the important fragments, making it possible to create a complete fw file by using another fw file and replacing those important sections.

The tar file cannot be used for recovery.

Did you even read the instructions?? Please don't listen to brucehvn. I know he is trying to help you but he has no idea what he is talking about.

Regarding your issue,

When you say you updated the drive to 1.05, did you mean the official 1.05 via LG's website? or the MakeMKV 1.05-MK firmware?

If you updated via the official LG 1.05 flashing tool, you must flash the drive to a MK firmware (I recommend WH16NS60 1.02-MK) then flash to a DE firmware (I recommend DE WH16NS60 1.00), then use the old DOSFLASH method to recover your drive.

Hi now time for the very noob question :D :

when you use the «READ Firmware» option, you get a Tar file, ok, there is any guide to create a correct firmware file to be restored to drive using the bin files on it? thanks for you time.
The read function is generally not required as you can just flash the original firmware back to the drive using the vendor's original flasher (from the link I gave you previously). The important bits are not overwritten.
Cheers :D

Hello all,

so if I'm read it correctly i can buy a BU40N Slimeline Drive and use your SDFtool Flasher with your DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 firmware and tickle the enc? Box?

No need to use the cmd script provided by Billy?

It's essentially the same thing, just in a GUI.

Do I need o do anything or is the job done?

I've just flashed my BU40N with the newest MK firmware BIN file from the BU40N-N-Main folder. Everything went fine and it said 100% succes. Aftwerwards I checked with MakeMKV and saw iI was still on firmware 1.04.....

OS drevnavn: K:
Producent: HL-DT-ST
Produkt: BD-RE BU40N
Version: 1.04
Serienummer: xxxxxxxx
Firmware dato: 2120-05-06 11:42
Krypteringsflag for databuss: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.04
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

Am I able to rip now or do I need to downgrade any further? In case I need to flash again please tell which BIN I need to use and what to be aware of. I.e. can I gro directly to a 1.00? should it be DE or MK?

You could stay o 1.04-MK (but I don't recommend it) or you can now flash to DE BU40N 1.00.

Excellent - TY.

Forgive me for asking but why is it recommended not to stay with 1.04MK?

However I will follow your advice MartyMcNuts, and flash to DE 1.00. Just to be sure so I won't brick my drive. Please confirm that I can flash from 1.04MK to DE 1.00 using SDFtool flasher and when I do that, I will not mark "enc" as my drive is no longer encrypted?

1.04 is simply not a very good firmware.

Yes, correct.

Hi there,
I own a MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ272 S 1.00 (Labels as TechPulse 120). Doing some research, but got confusing information. I read it is a Panasonic, or Pioneer device. Otherwise, it's said it is an LG BU40N. Anyways, I would like to get it UHD friendly if possible. Right now it's only BD capable. Would it be possible to unlock UHD function by flashing the firmware?
I already tried to use the flasher from this thread viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18873#p70284, but it did not work, cause the flasher doesn't recognize the drive (probably due to the controller in the external housing). The SDFtool Flasher, at least, recognized the drive, so I thought this might be working?

Which fw would be correct. I'm overwhelmed with all the different information, sorry for asking.
I had a similar problem flashing my BP60NB10 with SDFtool Flasher v1.2.0. It would not recognize my drive. However, if I had MakeMKV running (v1.16.3 x64) then the drive was recognized and I could select the MK firmware (mk-firmware-pack-20200720) and perform the flash successfully.

Don't know if this is a requirement for SDFtool Flasher (I'd not seen this mentioned) or there is some other anomaly but I thought I'd post just in case others are seeing the same issue when attempting to use SDFtool Flasher.

Best ...

Got a brand new WH16NS40 with 1.05 Firmware.

SDFTool v1.2.0, trying to flash to WH16NS60 v1.02 from the old folder, check the enc box.

Getting error code 0x8f056103

On Windows 10 X64. dotNet newer then 4.7.2

What am I doing wrong?

First flash 1.05 MK with enc. Then downgrade to whatever you want.
After that don't check enc anymore.

Hi, thnk for your job, i'm a very big jackie chan fan, and i want to transfer them to my pc, seems the ps3 cant read uhd dics.... after investigating too much y found your post and i found a "cheaper" reader that is in your list:https://www.amazon.es/Asus-BC-12D2HT-Bl ... 00F0SQLR8/
Y see in your folder have the same name but i have some questions:
I not see in the list that this hard drive come with encrypted so i not need to mark it in the tool?.
Some people say i need to put sata on ide is necessary with your tool?
Is that easy than select the bin file and select the drive and press write or i need to check something before?
THNK YOU VERY MUCH.
