I read that there is no slim drive that is working with AnyDVD?! So my aim is to rip UHD movies to my NAS and stream with KODI to the TV. I do not want to make copys of the BD. Is there any benefit using AnyDVD (meaning I would have to buy another drive like the ASUS BW-16D1HT or LG BH16N55)?

I had a new WH16NS40 with encrypted firmware 1.05, when I tried to flash to 1.02 MK (enc checked) I get the following error:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** Exception Text **************
System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.

--- End of stack trace from previous location where exception was thrown ---

... But as it turns out, I'm just an idiot. The drive tray was open, and when I closed it the tool worked fine.

Does anyone know if there will be a Mac compatible version of the SDFtool?

I am working on a GUI but it is still a while away yet.

As Woodstock said, MakeMKV's built in sdftool command line is available or you could ask someone with a windows machine.
Cheers :D

I purchased the WH14NS40 and info from MakeMKV is below.

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH14NS40
Revision: 1.05
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2120-05-06 14:44
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.05
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

I first tried flashing the DE 1.05 version of the firmware which appeared to be successful. I couldn't read any UHD discs. I then tried flashing the MK 1.05 version which appears to succeed as well but I still can't read UHD discs. My drive is installed in an OWC Mercury Pro enclosure. I'm clearly doing something wrong. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm running Windows 10.

Just confirming that the latest factory firmware for the ASUS BW-16D1HT is not encrypted being that it was released in March of 2019. If I try installing nonencrypted MK firmware on a drive manufactured with new, encrypted firmware without checking the Enc box, could that damage the drive, or would the update refuse to load and I only get an error message? Also, what would happen if I check the Enc box when the factory loaded firmware is not encrypted?

It was on 1.05

I was finally able to figure it out. I originally flashed the MK 1.05 firmware, it appeared to work but never did. After going round and round and trying other firmware's and other tools to downgrade, I started from scratch with the MK 1.05 firmware and it worked this time. I'm currently testing a rip of Interstellar.

Hi sorry for bother, but where did you get the 1.05 MK firmware? Thanks a lot.

The tar file does not contain the complete fw from your drive. It only contains the important fragments, making it possible to create a complete fw file by using another fw file and replacing those important sections.

The tar file cannot be used for recovery.

Did you even read the instructions?? Please don't listen to brucehvn. I know he is trying to help you but he has no idea what he is talking about.

Regarding your issue,

When you say you updated the drive to 1.05, did you mean the official 1.05 via LG's website? or the MakeMKV 1.05-MK firmware?

If you updated via the official LG 1.05 flashing tool, you must flash the drive to a MK firmware (I recommend WH16NS60 1.02-MK) then flash to a DE firmware (I recommend DE WH16NS60 1.00), then use the old DOSFLASH method to recover your drive.

Hi now time for the very noob question :D :

when you use the «READ Firmware» option, you get a Tar file, ok, there is any guide to create a correct firmware file to be restored to drive using the bin files on it? thanks for you time.
