OK, so that means ASUS are now using encrypted firmware starting from v3.11.
Cheers :D

Hey guys,

I have an BU40N that I am unable to flash. It looks like it's restricted as when I try to flash it with the Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2 pack I originally got mdchecksum mismatch. Now i'm getting a "
Write DRAM NG 05/24/00"

Pulling up SDFtool FLasher v1.3.3 I select Write and tried to flash it to BU40N 1.02 (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.02-NM01201-211711301218.bin) I get Command produced error code 0x8f052603.

Manufacture: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision 1.02

My understanding was I needed to do the following:
1. Open SDFtool Flahser v1.3.3
2. Select my DVD burner.
3. Select same firmware I currently have.
4. WRITE Firmware.
5. Write same firmware I currently have (1.02) but check Include boot loader.
6. Downgrade to version 1.0.0

Please let me know what I'm doing wrong. Thank you in advanced.

Flash 1.03-MK then BU40N 1.00 if you want more software compatibility.

Hi there,
I am new to the forum, and I have recently purchased the ASUS BW-16D1HT Pro drive, and also have the MakeMKV software purchased.
I am going to try flashing my drive with the firmware available here, and I have downloaded the SDFTool 1.3.3, and also the mk firmware pack 20200720.
I have read on various post about flashing to the ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.10-MK firmware. So, is the ASUS firmware in the pack the 3.10-MK firmware?

The one in the ASUS folder is ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014.bin - is this the one to use?

Additionally, what is the difference between READ and WRITE Firmware? Thanks in advance!

Yes, that's the one!

READ will dump the important bits of the firmware to a .tar file. WRITE is to write (flash) another firmware to the drive.

FYI, apparently there is a newer 3.11 firmware that is encrypted on some of those ASUS drives. If yours has this 3.11 (and not 3.10) SDFtool flasher may not pick up that it is encrypted. If this is the case and the flash doesn't work, simply toggle the encrypted firmware flag by clicking on the red X and it will change to a green tick, then proceed with the flash.
Cheers :D

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
My ASUS BW-16D1HT Pro drive, although bought recently, has the 3.10 firmware, manufactured in May 2021, I supposed the firmware is not encrypted. I will try flash it and see what happen.

By the way, does this drive has the Sleep Bug too? If so, what can I do to remove the bug? Thanks.

FYI, I have updated the SDFtool Flasher. The latest version is v1.3.4, which should now automatically detect the ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.11 encrypted firmware.

The download link in the first post of this thread has been updated.
Cheers :D

Hi all,

I edited my original post. Turns out that the first post or so on the forum explains how to make the SDFTool flasher visible in Windows 11, thanks! Also I discovered that one does indeed need to have MakeMKV installed for the flasher tool to locate the hard drive.

Everything is good now, thanks!

Do you have MakeMKV v1.15.2 or greater installed in the default location?

Hi all, I have an LG BP55EB40 on the way which I'm looking to crossflash to enable UHD ripping.

From what I understand I need to flash the MK firmware that matches the one that comes with the drive to enable downgrading and then the recommendation is to flash to BP60NB10 MK 1.00, correct?
