Hi all,
New here, I wonder if I have just made a big mistake in puchasing the Asus BC-12D1HT or is this drive still OK to convert via flashing to UHD friendly status, of course the firmware the drive will come with will make a big differenece.
What should I look for when I get the drive in terms of firmware and the next step to take, or should I just go and cancel my order and look for something else.
Thanks

It is
not a very popular drive for this purpuse, but some have had luck with it:

So, if you can instead get one of the recommended drives where you live, do so.
Read the guide for those requirements.

Thank you for all your help St4evr, the drive has just been shipped and I just realised the drive I bought was the BC-12D2HT and not the BC-12D1HT, not sure whether this makes any difference or not but I going to do some reading on this drive and flash it once I know which original firmware it contains.

The BC-12D2HT should come with 3.11. Just flash it with BC-12D2HT 3.11-MK and you will be good to go!

unfortunately it looks like my drive is older, manufactured in December 2017 and came with firmware version 3.01 (see below).
Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BC-12D2HT
Revision: 3.01
Serial number: K9BI1292407
Firmware date: 2117-11-15 19:26
Bus encryption flags: 1E
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 3.01
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)
will this work OK and a keeper or should I send it back for another UHD friendly drive?
If it's a keeper, which is the best firware for it? the 3.01MK or is it flashable with the 3.11MK? or is it best kept as is?
Many thanks

Yep, go with the 3.01-MK from the "MK\old" folder. That should do the trick!

Thanks, is it advisable to make a copy and dump the original firmware of the drive or is this no longer necessary?
If it's still required (for safe keeping just in case) what utility should I use to do this? is Dosflash still the tool to do this or can it be done with the modified Asus ODD FW Changer?

Thank you, are there other firmware versions that will work with this drive or is the 3.01MK the best to use?

It is best to
NOT cross-flash this model drive. All sorts of issues have arisen before. You could try the 3.11-MK but if it is already working for you on 3.01-MK, I'd leave it alone.

I haven't flashed my drive yet, I am just making sure I got everything right before going ahead and flashing it, I have noticed a DE firmware file version 3.00 in the the firmware pack what are the benefits of DE firmwares?

The DE firmwares are the standard firmwares with just one byte changed to "DE" which re-enables firmware downgrading.
