Hi experts,
I am looking between asus bw-16d1ht vs lg wh16ns40. Can someone please help me here?

Main purpose:
Store images (clicked pictures) and videos for long term backup.
Will burn in dvd+r (or dvd-r, which one is better?) dvds and mdisc too.
Probably: 4.7gb, 25gb and mdisc.

I am completely noob here. Please guide me :)
Those drives are the same hardware I think. LG makes the hardware both for themselves and as an OEM for ASUS. The difference is the logo silk screened on the front and the firmware they run, but I think they can be cross flashed from one to the other.

The real difference in optical drives is between everything LG makes and Pioneer. The received wisdom on this board is Pioneer makes the better drives.

If you want to burn discs >25GB (Mdisc) you should get a Pioneer instead of a LG. Look at the seller's page.
