Yep, the new 1.02 version is encrypted. Just click the ✖ to toggle the encryption mode to ✔. You should then be able to complete the flash.
A huge thanks, that did the trick! I thought about it but I couldn't find my fw from the encrypted list and was affraid of the warnings.

Yeah, it's a bit hard to update the list at the moment as LG seem to be re-using old firmware version numbers and making them encrypted.
Cheers :D

Hi All

I bought WH16NS60 a few years ago from Frys but never got a chance to use it till now. Here is the info about the disc and firmware.

I am trying to backup Interstellar UHD and running into disc read error issues. It backs up few mts files but then fails in the main movie.

I have cleaned and washed the disc as suggested in some posts. Still keep getting read errors.

My question is whether I need a firmware update and if yes, then which one is recommended for this drive?

Thanks
HO

Thanks for figuring this out and posting it, was in exactly the same boat with my HLDS BU40N, flashed it several times "successfully" without changing it. Enabled encrypted firmware and flashed, my firmware is now free.

First, thanks for the reply. You were correct that it had not been flashed. However, the reason I was getting an error from sdftool_flasher was because I had a DVD in the drive. Once I removed the DVD I was able to flash the drive and MakeMKV is now working. I am able to copy UHD disks. Thanks again.

I'm a little confused about the state of current WH16NS60 drives. The guide says if it's on firmware 1.03 it will be encrypted... but it's not clear if this means I can't somehow get the MK/Libredrive (these are the same thing right?) firmware on it or not? And that apparently current WH16NS60 drives can have up to firmware 1.05... but apparently there is a 1.05 MK version while this guide says it only goes up to 1.02? Is the guide in the initial post out of date or did I Google information about this wrong?

I am planning to toss it in an external USB enclosure (Probably the OWC Mercury Pro 5.25 mentioned, unless there is a better one now not mentioned in the guide) and both flash and use it from there.

Also, if I have another completely different drive connected to the system by SATA, will that cause issues either with flashing or ripping?

Hi Billy

I can confirm that the Vantec NST-536S3-BK and the new model NST-540S3-BK (DX2) both flash no problems.

I have receipt of the new prototype and it flashes too.

As you know my wholesale company is the European distributer for these Enclosures.

They have a full 2 year RMA warranty and if it does not rip it can be replaced.

Please do not move to unsupported for flashing.

Kind Regards

Asmcom

Happy New Year Billy.

Keep up your brilliant work
not really sure what to do i have conflicting info i sent a remote flash kit out to one guy with it and it did not work and 2 guys here say it also does not flash.
my automated flasher returned this error on the cases
Desktop drive handshake failed with error=0x82000000, trying slim drive handshake...

Write flags NG 05/24/00

Command produced error code 0x8f052400
i know the old one works but maybe there is a batch in the middle between old and new that does not flash when they were switching chips or something.
Hey Billy,

FYI, I just flashed a BU40N in a Vantec enclosure (that I received last week) and it worked just fine.
Cheers :D

Yeah the slim ones are fine for now it the same motherboard as the archgon one actually.
It the 5.25 desktop ones that seem to be the problem
