Ugh! Looked at the box - and it has NB52 for it's SVC code. But I looks like I was able to flash an MK firmware onto it ...
Weird
Yeah you won't be able to flash it to a BP60 for now then. to read UHD.

Hey all,
Just purchased a BP50NB40, and started the UHD flashing process.
I first flashed with the MK firmware using the SDF Flash tool (from the "The all you need firmware pack", and the following is what I've got:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP50NB40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: SIK01L99G0500
Firmware date: 2120-05-07 09:17
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 12

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed
Looks good.

I then attempted to flash the BP60NB10 firmware. SDFTool gives me the following warning, but then proceeds to flash "OK". However, when opening MakeMKV, there's no change to the firmware - hence no UHD for me.

Have I missed something?

Actually I have an idea to make that drive be flash able to bp60 email me if you want to experiment no guarantees but worth a try

You could try cross-flashing it to BU40N 1.03-MK instead?? Not sure if it will work but give it a shot.
Cheers :D

Do you mean HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934 ?
Still nothing. It looks like the flash succeeds, but no change in firmware :/

I have read the OP many times, and read through most if not all of the posts that have "WH16NS60" mentioned in them.

Before I try this and potentially brick my drive, I just wanted to double check that all my ducks are lined up...

It looks like all I need to do is run the latest SDFtool Flasher.exe and make sure it is set to load WH16NS60 1.02MK?

I have a ‎Unitek "Y-1099NEW" external adapter
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WWLCYC3/

Here are the details on my drive:

MFG Date: NOV 2020
SVC CODE: NS60

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS60
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: HIDDEN BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE DOES?
Firmware date: 2120-05-08 10:10
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 75

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

Hello,

There is alot of information on this forum, thanks for everyone involved. I just want to check something, though. I bought a BH16NS40 with SVC NS51 and firmware 1.05 for only about EUR50 brand spanking new from a local shop. MakeMKV showed the following information:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS40
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: ***********
Firmware date: 2120-05-06 13:31
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.05
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)
Now, I figured that because this firmware is encrypted, I need to flash a 'MK' version to enable downgrade/crossflash, etc. This wasn't completely obvious (to me) while reading the guide, but I figured this from the MK firmware topic. So I flashed HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00600-212005061331.bin from the MK firmware package. Now MakeMKV reports the following:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS40
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: ***********
Firmware date: 2120-05-06 13:31
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.05
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
So far, so good (I guess). Now: I also see the 'only firmware you need' package which contains HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin. This seems to be the recommended firmware according to the guide, while not specifically mentioned for BH16NS40 drives. Two questions:

a) Is this the best firmware also for my drive, and should I thus crossflash to WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936 or stay on the BH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00600-212005061331 firmware that's currently loaded?
b) In the MK firmware package there's only 1.03 for the WH16NS60 (WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010). While in the 'only firmware you need' there's only 1.02. Is there a reason 1.02 keeps being referred to as 'the one', and (out of curiosity) why?
