Hello does anybody know if there is any hope of the above drive becoming UHD friendly?
I have heard there is hope for older Pioneer drives, is this one of them?
If not I will probably sell it on eBay, only used it once.

No. What you heard/read is incorrect. There are various technical reasons why Pioneer drives will NEVER be “UHD Friendly”.
