Pioneer BDR-2209 experiences?

Update: Nope. Works great for regular Bluray; says it supports BDXL but I get "no disc" with UHD. Moving on.
I ordered a Pioneer BDR-2209 before I knew that there was a science to getting an UHD drive.
It's scheduled to arrive 11/6. Any experiences with the drive, good or bad? If I know it won't work, I might as well return it unopened and get a "UHD-friendly" drive from one of the techs on the forum.

Yep the Pioneer BDR-2209 won’t be able to read 4K UHD discs. It was mentioned in another thread that Pioneer Optical Drives doesn’t work with 4K UHD. You’ll need either the Asus BW-16D1HT drive or the LG WH16NS40 with the correct firmware. As for general experience on the Pioneer BDR-2209, works great with MakeMKV in ripping, playing standard Blu-Rays and DVDs the past years. Usually the rip speed is around 6x to 6.5x.

idk what type he got but get a LG WH14NS40, WH16NS40 or Asus BW-16D1HT most will have the updated firmware so if you cant or dont want to flash it, it would better to buy one from me or another forum member that does it for you.
or wait a bit and buy a LG WH16NS60 once its supported
look at my thread if interested

What they said. I got an Asus 16D1HT and an LG WH16NS40 (cross-flashed) from a forum member, and they work great.
Full UHD drive would be the way to go once it's supported, the 16NS60.
