WP50NB40 NB52 Restore to stock firmware?

Post by KCHawkeye02 » Wed Apr 29, 2026 9:18 pm

I have a WP50NB40 NB52. I successfully cross flashed it to BU40N 1.00. Used it to burn 4K for a few weeks, then the drive started having issues reading discs. I need to send this to LG for a warranty device swap, but I want to downgrade the firmware to anything that will show WP50NB40 in the Device Manager (currently shows BU40N).

Can anyone help by providing the steps or the NB52 clean firmware for the WP model?

Before you take such a drastic step... Have you considered flashing it to DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.00_MK in Marty's All You Need Firmware Pack (this should be doable) ? This might help in case the issue you're having stems from hard-to-read 4K discs that might be giving the BU40N firmware trouble.

If you are sure that the issue cannot possibly come from that and you do want to flash it back, then you might have a problem, because all of the official LG flashers for this drive are for the NB50 version, as far as I know.

Just RECOVER to WP50NB40 1.03-MK.
Cheers :D

What the heck. I swear I tried that 2-3 times before posting. It worked this time. Exact steps for those in the same situation in the future:

Open SDFtool flasher.exe, run as administrator
Select optical Blu-ray drive
select Recover Drive
select DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin (currently installed firmware)
select DE_LG_WP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin. Click Start
Wait until finished. Click Exit
Power cycle LG Blu-ray drive

Drive now shows in Device Manager and MakeMKV as WP50NB40.
