Verbatim 43888 not ripping UHD movies

Post by droman1995 » Sat Mar 14, 2026 12:17 pm

Hey everyone,

I've buyed a Verbatim 43888 UHD Drive to digitalize my movie collection, but have general problems ripping UHD discs.
First of all it's a drive with an LG BU40N on firmware v1.05, ripping movies out of the box wasn't possible (surprise surprise).
So i flashed it with the help of the flashing guide in this forum down to firmware v1.03.
I'd used this command to flash it on makemkv v1.17.7 on my linux system:

Code: Select all

makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr0 -f /tmp/sdf.bin rawflash main -i /tmp/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin
Afterwards with launching makemkv i still get the info, that the drive is on firmware v1.05, but normal blurays and dvds can be ripped now.

And the LibreDrive Info states "Possible, not jet enabled" (I unfortunately don't have a screenshot before flashing).
Next thing is, that after flashing i can't use this drive on newer versions of makemkv, it will fail reading the disc.
So i have to stay on v1.17.7 and on linux (windows with different versions of makemkv don't work either).
To try to solve the problem with UHD discs, i found in the forum the topic "Public KeyDB Disc Submissions".
Downloaded the current version, extracted it into the .makemkv directory of my user and launched makemkv.
This would still not fix my problem (second try with naming the database from keydb to KEYDB).

On every UHD disc i would receive following messages:

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A30..0020..03F to device 'SG:dev_21:1' --> a few dozen times on different addresses.
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT ESTABLISHED' occurred while issuing SCSI command AD010..080002400 to device 'SG:dev_21:1' --> some of these
And after auto-aborting on makemkv side these lines (Harry Potter movie as an example):

Code: Select all

Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
Saved AACS dump file as /home/kev/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v61_Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosopher's_Stone_B6E1.tgz
LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted.
Failed to open disc
Maybe something went wrong during flashing (didn't receive any errors there) or i did something wrong.
Does someone has an idea on how to fix it?
Or are there some additional logs, which would help with this one?
I was thinking about to flash the drive a second time, but am not sure if this is a bright idea ....

Use enc instead of main in your command line.
