Asus BW-16D1X-U Drive - Which Firmware to Flash?

Post by TnEGuy » Tue Oct 28, 2025 10:56 am

Hello. Pardon me if this question has been asked before.
I've recently acquired the following drive:

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: Asus
Product: BW-16D1X-U
Revision: A105
Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware Date: 2120-12-02 11:14
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

From what little I know, it seems like this drive should be flashable. The question is, which firmware should it be flashed to?

1) ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10 OR 2) ASUS-BW-16D1H-U-A204?

These were the only two ASUS options in the firmware file that I downloaded. I'm sure there are two different files for a very good reason.

Is either of these firmware files usable with my drive? Is there a better version available? I'd rather only do this once.

Thanks to all of you who have created and continue to support this forum.

I've got to admit that I've re-read the flashing guide yet again. I must be blind or just plain ignornt, but I still haven't seen the connection between my Asus-branded drive and the LG firmware. (Probably just ignornt!😎)

You were absolutely correct though. I flashed the drive with the firmware you said to without encountering a single hiccup.

I'm currently ripping my first UHD Blu-Ray disk with it; even as I'm writing this. It's looking like the 50-some GB rip will take around 40 minutes total. Right in line with the speed testing results in the flashing guide, I'd say!

Thank goodness you guys understand all of this so well! Thank you for your very helpful reply.

Yup. Worked perfectly! A successful 53.6GB rip in under 41 minutes. Thanks again Coopervid!

ASUS don't make drives. The BW-16 is just a rebranded LG drive.
Cheers :D
