LG WH14NS40 Repair

Post by Kain89 » Sat Sep 13, 2025 4:16 am

Hello. I recently purchased a non-working LG WH14NS40. Upon opening the device I found that the plastic piece which guides the laser along the rail had broken. I have attached photos for context. I was curious if anyone knows any possible solutions to this? Is this piece perhaps in a standard LG DVD-ROM drive and I could swap the part into the Blu-Ray drive? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your time.

Probably but why bother?? Those drives are cheap enough brand new!

Also, what's the manufacture date on the sticker? If before Oct 2015 it won't ever do UHD. It should also be MT1959 drive platform and SVC 50 or greater.
Cheers :D

I've actually managed to get it working by gluing the piece back together  . Drive has a manufacture date of 2024 and I was able to play back a 4k disc properly! Not sure if it will work like this for good now, but I'd still like to find a proper replacement for this part just to be safe.

Get a non-working drive for spare parts?
Use a 3D printer to make the part?
Cheers :D
