Pioneer BD-RW BDR-212M. Close but not quite working.

Hi, I have found a boxed Pioneer BD-RW BDR 212M drive in my attic, I'm assuming unused, I get the following information from the drive, it says BDXL on the front panel but it's not reading UHD discs. I'm trying to read a UHD100 disc and after 30-60 seconds, it reports No Disc Inserted, it reads HD discs just fine.
I'm a complete newbie at this so I'd appreciate being stepped through what I need to do to get this drive working.
