Will LG BH16NS40 or BH16NS55 work for ripping 4k full discs?

Post by Tsunamijhoe » Wed Nov 15, 2023 11:14 pm

As topic states, will either of these drives work for ripping my 4K discs? If so, do they need flashing? Can they be used with USB3 adapters?

I haven't a clue how 4k ripping works.

Thank you for your help.

They are all the same regarding hardware. They have various firmware that can be cross-flashed. These drives have not the best read and write performance but they do regularily OK. Pioneer drives are the better readers and writers but Pioneer crippled their firmware in Dec. 2022. So to get a Pioneer either contact sellers in your area or buy a Verbatim 43888 if available in your region. It contains a Pioneer UD04 and will work ight out-of-the-box.

Thank you very much. I will buy the verbatim then as my retailer has it in stock, and if it will work without tampering that is even better.

You need an optical drive that supports LibreDrive. There's a bunch of info about it in the Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide post. There's a special note about Pioneer drives.
