New BU40N flashed, but now doesn't recognize burner

Post by SickPup404 » Tue Aug 15, 2023 2:57 pm

Hi all,

I recently bought two of these LG BU40N drives to use internally in a couple Dell Optiplex SFF machines.

I successfully flashed them using the instructions as noted (I've flashed a handful of other drives before, but these are the first BU40N's):

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: MO8M6192948
Firmware date: 2118-10-24 19:34
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
The issue I'm having is when I tried to burn an ISO (Win 10 installer image). Did the right click, Burn Disc Image, but when Windows Disc Image Burner opens, it shows:

Code: Select all

A disc burner wasn't found. Make sure that a burner is installed properly, and you have the appropriate permissions to burn a disc.
I've done Google searches and search the forums, but can't find anything with a solution.

BTW: Rips seem to work fine... Rebooting doesn't help.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Try doing a full shutdown for 5 mins then boot back into the os and don't open makemkv just try to directly burn with a blank disk in

Thank you for the help and suggestions. Same results.

However, I apparently left out one very important piece of information. I was connected to these two machines via RDP - Burners are disabled by default over RDP.

For others, the solution:
- Follow the instructions here to Enable it via GPEdit.
- Reboot

Note: This is to allow the burner on the remote PC to burn files while you are controlling it via RDP. Handy if you have several headless PCs...

(In case the link ever goes away, here's the paraphrased steps.)
1. Open the Start Menu
2. Type gpedit.msc and hit the [Enter] key
3. When the Group Policy Editor window opens, navigate to Administrative Templates...System...Removeable Storage Access in the left pane.
4. In the right pane, double click on All Removable Storage: Allow direct access in remote sessions
5. When the window opens, click on Enable.
6. Click OK to save the settings.
7. Close the Local Group Policy Editor.
8. Reboot.
