SATA UHD Drive, sometimes hangs loading

Have a new build of a PC on a Shuttle cube, running Windows 10. I have a couple of UHD drives, one an LG, the other a Asus BW-16D1HT. Both work well for makemkv ripping.

But I've notices that sometimes, makemkv will hang "Loading..." after I insert a 4k blu-ray. Takes a power cycle to get control again. Not sure, but seems like if I insert the disc first, then start makemkv, it tends to not hang like that.

Sorry if this is asked before, but is this a known thing that can be worked around? Let me know if I've missed important info. System is running SATA mode and UEFI boot.

Edit: Probably unclear about a couple things... I've tried both drives, they act the same. And I know the drives and the discs are OK.. If I put the drives in an external enclosure and connect via USB3, they work fine.

Always let windows load the disc then open makemkv otherwise they can fight for control of the optical drive

Thanks for the reply. How is the best way to determine the timing, wait for disc loading noises, then quiet? You use any heuristics to decide when?
