Windows 10 doesn't seem to detect my Asus BW-16D1HT drive

Post by Franchiver » Tue Apr 12, 2022 9:02 pm

Greetings,

I'm trying to use a Asus BW-16D1HT optical disc drive with my Windows 10 laptop, by connecting it through an Unitek Y-1099-EU USB-to-SATA adapter. However, the drive keeps failing to appear in the File Explorer. In the Device Manager, it seems to appear as an "unknown USB device".
It can be opened and closed, though even inserting a Blu-Ray in it doesn't change anything.
Through Windows Update, I updated the ASUStek driver (not the firmware) to the latest version - to no avail.

Could I have missed something to make it work?

Any hint would be greatly appreciated!

Are you sure it's your optical drive showing as such, and not the adapter itself that maybe isn't properly installed?

Not 100% positive, I'm afraid. By "properly installed", do you mean "properly plugged"? Or is there something I should have installed along with it?

I don't believe that model adapter works with optical drives anymore.
Cheers :D

Hmm I thought it only no longer works with flashing but then that was fixed I may have to take it off the list then

https://www.unitek-products.com/product ... 5-3-5-inch

It no longer mentions optical drives in the product description.

Thank you all. That's bad news indeed. I guess I should have read those specs from the manufacturer's website instead of the obviously misleading Amazon page :(

So, should I replace the adapter or the optical drive? Which models should I choose?
